I have played many roles in Dr. Serrano's research team since 2001 when I first sought my B.S. degree in Biochemistry. After earning my M.S. from New Mexico State University in 2006, I worked as a technician in Dr. Lee Niswander's lab at the Anschutz Medical Campus for several years. I returned to NMSU as a Senior Research Assistant in 2010 and began my Doctoral Training in 2012.
I have enjoyed my experiences working with students as a professional skills developer, program facilitator, adjunct professor, laboratory teaching assistant, and as a research mentor. My main research interest is in the biochemical outcomes of human-plant symbioses. I welcome the opportunity to speak with students whenever my skills are needed.

I am a professor-scientist at New Mexico State University who enjoys teaching and working with students to further their careers. Please do not hesitate to contact me to talk about the class, about your goals for your undergraduate degree, or any other topic where you think I could be helpful.
I received my doctoral degree in neuroscience and biophysics from Stanford University and my undergraduate physics degree from the University of Rochester. My lab studies sensory disorders of hearing and balance and we have new projects developing treatments for traumatic brain injury. Students with interests in the physical and mathematical sciences, neurobiology, data science, neuroethics, science policy, research education, and the intersection between art and science are encouraged to contact me about working with my research team.

After graduating from New Mexico State University with a B.S. in biology in 2012, I joined Dr. Elba Serrano's lab as a research collaborator. Initially I pursued a Master's degree in biology, but after one year of studies, I changed my degree to a Ph.D in biology. My focus of research is primarily on neuroanatomy and histology. I plan to also supplement this work with genomic analysis. My career goals include professorship and developing a lab as a principal investigator (PI) focused on neurobiology, such as neural development, anatomy and genomic sequencing.
Prior experiences in teaching assistantships include teaching Biology 111 (introductory biology), and Biology 313 (botany) labs. Besides classwork, teaching and research, I enjoy tutoring in science and math-related fields. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about this class, including requests for guided study-sessions or tutoring.
